MYLEC Teams Up with the Pittsburgh Penguins

This fall, MYLEC has teamed up with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation in an effort to establish a strong youth interest in the game of hockey. The Penguins feel that in doing so, it will also translate into a new generation of Penguins fans in the near future. MYLEC and the Penguins have been working on building street hockey rinks in the local Pittsburgh area for a couple months now. The rinks are being constructed in city parks, open for all to use and have the opportunity to play hockey. As part of the building process, MYLEC sends a few volunteers to the city, only to be greeted by a number of great local volunteers who help install the DEKMAT playing surface, all in a days work. Past experiences have included visits from Head Coach Dan Blysma and Assistant Coach Tony Granato of the Penguins, willing to give a helping hand.

Street Hockey has always been popular in this part of the country, that often boasts local talents to compete on the National Team’s in the World Championships, but this will only add to the talent coming out of the region. It is a great move for the Penguins, that is doing their part in reaching out to the community, and MYLEC could not be happier to be involved with such an opportunity.

FIRST ANNUAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

FOUR ON FOUR CO-ED TOURNAMENT

The First Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 4 on 4 CoEd Tournament kicked off at the National Dek Hockey Center in Winchendon, MA. This event was held on October 21st, in the heart of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The idea of the tournament came from Anthony Laperriere and Mike DeFazio, while working at Mylec over the summer. They came up with this idea, and carried it out until the end, with hopes of making it an annual event that will continue to grow

For only the first year, the turnout was great. The tournament featured 8 teams, across Central MA, that came out on the beautiful fall day, to show their appreciation. Each player that participated received various gifts to honor their donation. This day saw many people come out to volunteer in whatever way possible. People also came to donate baked goods to sell and raise additional money for the cause

MYLEC helped make this event a huge success as well. They made a number of custom pink products, from pink shin pads, pink sticks, pink tape, balls featuring the tournament logo, and t-shirts for the event. A portion of all these goods that were sold, also went into the pool of proceeds that were donated. MYLEC also supplied the winners with customized sweaters. To add to the generosity, the rink time was donated by the National Dek Hockey Center at no cost. To have an all day event like this, expenses for rink time alone could run well over a thousand dollars

After all was said and done, this event raised nearly $3,000. Every single dollar, was sent to various charities. Family and friends of the area that were suffering from this awful disease, or had known a past relative who fought it until the end, were honored

Anthony and Mike would like to thank all that came out to play, and support the great cause. As college students, it is not an easy task, but enjoyed every single minute of it. Families that were honored were more than grateful for such an event
